Can Judaism provide us with spiritual and intellectual resources that help us lead flourishing lives of meaning even as we're beset by doubts about the very ideas that might serve as foundations and inspirations: truth, justice, progress, God, even free will? As he so often does, Maimonides has blazed a trail for us here - building a life of incredible energy and productivity on a quicksand-like foundation of doubt. Like his work, which was both humanistic and distinctively Jewish, Maimonides's doubts encompassed both the redeemability of Torah and the very possibility of human life meaning anything. Together, we'll watch Maimonides chart his courageous, dizzying path on the razor's edge of truth and nihilism - and consider what it can mean for us today. All sources will be in English - no prior background required.
